Balance of stability, aesthetics, and lightweight construction. Volkswagen R, in collaboration with Volkswagen Design, has introduced an innovative forged wheel option for all new Golf R models. Weighing just eight kilograms per rim, these wheels are approximately 20% lighter than standard alloy wheels, reducing unsprung masses and enhancing handling. Design engineer, Ranbir Kalha, explains, “Achieving the ambitious weight target was a significant challenge, as maintaining structural integrity was crucial. It took extensive testing and simulations to strike the perfect balance between strength and weight.”
Enhanced performance with a touch of style. The wheel rim’s design features ten overlapping rectangles to create a visually larger wheel. With a generous opening ratio of 71%, the wheels improve stability and wear resistance while enhancing brake cooling efficiency, particularly during intense track use.
Heritage-inspired innovation. The Warmenau wheel rim, named after the home of Volkswagen R in Warmenau, is offered in black or dark grey with a diamond-cut finish, paired with 235/35 tires. This sleek design draws inspiration from the iconic wheels of the original Golf R32 models.
Evolution of Volkswagen R. Volkswagen R, the pinnacle of performance within the brand, saw a record-breaking year in 2023, producing over 35,000 vehicles. With a total of over 300,000 R models delivered since 2002, Volkswagen R is transitioning towards an all-electric lineup by 2030, focusing on performance, design, innovation, and quality. Originally established as Volkswagen Individual GmbH in 2002, Volkswagen R became a distinct entity within the Volkswagen brand in 2020, embodying a dedication to motorsport and performance.
