Blissett, after a successful career with GM globally, has chosen to retire, leaving behind a legacy of growth and adaptation for GM China during transformative times in the local industry and amidst the challenges of the COVID pandemic.
“Julian has set a strong foundation for GM to continue its successful journey in China over the last 27 years, with a focus on product competitiveness, technological advancements, and strong partnerships in the country,” stated Rory Harvey, GM executive vice president and president of Global Markets.
“We are pleased to have Steve joining us as GM senior vice president and president of GM China. His extensive commercial experience and customer-centric approach will be pivotal in capitalizing on the opportunities presented by the accelerated electrification of our vehicle lineup in China and the adoption of innovative technologies.”
Blissett joined GM in 1996 as an engineer in Europe and has held various leadership positions, including serving as executive vice president of SAIC General Motors (SAIC-GM) in 2014. He later became senior vice president of International Operations in 2019, overseeing key projects to streamline GM’s international operations before taking on the role of leading GM China in 2020.
“It has been a privilege to contribute to GM’s global success and especially to witness the growth in China throughout my career,” commented Blissett. “I am confident in GM’s trajectory for growth and success in China. The time has come for me to retire and return to England to spend more time with my family.”

Hill expressed his enthusiasm for his new position: “I am thrilled to take on this new challenge where I can utilize my expertise in fostering strong partnerships, driving sales, and delivering top-notch purchase and ownership experiences for our customers, in one of the most competitive markets globally.”
In his new capacity, Hill will become a part of GM’s Senior Leadership Team, reporting to Harvey, and will be based in Shanghai.
