GM Energy is now offering its initial set of products aimed at residential customers, allowing the transfer of power between a compatible GM EV and a properly equipped home using vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging technology. This feature helps minimize the impact of weather-related power outages and sets the groundwork for integrating with future clean energy solutions to enhance personal grid resilience.
The GM Energy product line includes various bundle options designed for residential customers to choose the solutions that best meet their energy requirements, budget constraints, and personal preferences, all accessible online. GM Energy representatives will assist customers in engaging with Qmerit, the preferred installer, to secure permits and liaise with utilities for a smooth installation process.
Initially, customers can purchase the V2H bundle from GM Energy, which includes the necessary equipment for energy transfer between a compatible EV and a home. More residential solutions, such as stationary energy storage and solar integration, will be made available for purchase later in the year.
“GM Energy is dedicated to simplifying all aspects of personal energy management to make the transition to an all-electric lifestyle even more appealing,” stated Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy. “With these new offerings, customers can easily access the benefits of a comprehensive EV ecosystem, offering power outage mitigation and potential long-term energy cost savings.”
Customers can manage GM Energy products seamlessly through existing GM mobile brand apps, enabling the effortless transfer of stored energy between applicable GM Energy assets for a fully integrated experience.

1Initial product availability is limited to California, Florida, Michigan, New York, and Texas, with plans for expansion in the future.
2Product specifications may vary. The GM Energy PowerShift Charger and GM Energy V2H Enablement Kit require a fully charged and properly equipped GM EV with bidirectional charging capabilities (anticipated vehicles include the 24MY Silverado EV RST, 24MY Sierra EV Denali, 24MY Chevrolet Blazer EV, 24MY Chevrolet Equinox EV, 24MY Cadillac LYRIQ), a suitable home setup, and grid interconnection. Some eligible 24MY EVs may need a dealership or over-the-air update to enable bidirectional charging. Various factors like weather conditions, battery lifespan, vehicle usage, and external circumstances can affect power supply duration. Power supply interruptions may occur.
GM Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Motors, aims to expand and accelerate a comprehensive energy ecosystem through new products, software, and services. This includes enhancing access to EV education and resources, expanding public charging infrastructure, and developing energy management solutions for commercial and residential clients.
