Richmond Hill, ON. Recognized as the epitome of driving enjoyment for purists, the latest BMW M2 sets a new standard for compact high-performance sports cars in the premium category. In 2025, the BMW M2 receives a boost in power, enhanced visual appeal, and innovative technology and digital features. The main highlight of these updates is the increase of 20 hp in its power output: the high-revving inline 6-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology now reaches 473 hp. The exterior and interior feature new design elements, a wider range of exterior colors, and the introduction of BMW Operating System 8.5 to support the latest BMW iDrive generation.
The 2025 BMW M2 takes the classic concept of a driver’s car with a straight-six engine, 6-speed manual gearbox, and rear-wheel-drive to a new level. In conjunction with its compact size, perfectly-tuned chassis technology for both everyday and track driving, and a state-of-the-art operating system allowing personalization of various vehicle functions, the new M2 is well-equipped to continue the legacy of success for the BMW M brand in this segment.
The new BMW M2 will be manufactured alongside the new BMW 2 Series Coupe at the BMW Group Plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. It is set for a global launch with production starting in August 2024.

M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine with increased power and torque.
In addition to the power upgrade, the unique power delivery of the 6-cylinder engine is a key factor in the performance experience offered by the new BMW M2. The updated engine maintains its linear power delivery, extending into the higher rev ranges, a characteristic feature of M models. The engine’s maximum torque is available across a broad rev band. When paired with the standard 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, torque now reaches 443 lb-ft between 2,700 and 5,620 rpm. With the optional 6-speed manual gearbox, peak torque remains at 406 lb-ft between 2,650 and 6,130 rpm. The engine achieves its increased maximum power output of 473 hp at 6,250 rpm, with redline at 7,200 rpm.
To assist drivers in maximizing the enhanced power, improvements have been made to the accelerator mapping and response in all selectable drive modes via the M Setup menu. Consequently, the new BMW M2 provides quicker responses to driver acceleration requests, whether equipped with the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission or the 6-speed manual gearbox.
Motorsport expertise enhances everyday performance.

Featuring a pair of mono-scroll turbochargers, an indirect intercooler, and an electronically controlled wastegate, the M TwinPower Turbo technology in the inline-six engine includes High Precision Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing, and Double-VANOS fully variable camshaft timing. The engine incorporates several motorsport-inspired details, contributing to its rapid responsiveness, high rev capability, and consistent performance on the track. These details include a stiff crankcase with a sleeve-free, closed-deck construction, a lightweight forged crankshaft, cylinder bores with a wire-arc sprayed iron coating, and a 3D-printed core for the cylinder head.
The M-specific cooling system ensures optimal temperature for powertrain components even under heavy loads. The oil circuit is designed to handle dynamic driving situations effectively. An oil pump controlled by a map ensures reliable oil supply during extreme acceleration and cornering forces.
The Drivelogic button integrated into the selector lever for the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission allows adjustment of shift characteristics, with three distinct settings available. Both the selector lever in the latest M design and the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel enable manual gear selection at any time.

Drivers seeking a more engaging driving experience can opt for the 6-speed manual gearbox. Equipped with the Gear Shift Assistant feature, the manual transmission ensures smooth downshifting with rev-matching control.
With the increased power output, the manual M2 achieves a 0.1-second improvement in its 0 to 100 km/h time, completing the sprint in just 4.2 seconds. The M Steptronic transmission reduces this time to 4.0 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, or 285 mph with the optional M Driver’s Package. The dynamic power delivery is accompanied by a captivating sound from the M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps.
Expanded selection of exterior paint options, updated exterior details, and new alloy wheels.
In 2025, customers have the choice of three solid colors, seven metallic shades, and four BMW Individual paint finishes for the new BMW M2. The expanded color range includes Sao Paulo Yellow, Vegas Red metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic, Frozen Pure Grey metallic, and Frozen Portimao Blue II metallic. BMW Individual paint finishes now include Java Green metallic, Voodoo Blue, Grigio Telesto Pearl Effect metallic, and Twilight Purple Pearl Effect metallic.
The new BMW M2 comes standard with M alloy wheels Style 930M featuring a double-spoke design with a Jet Black finish, 19-inch front and 20-inch rear. These wheels are also available in a burnished or bright silver finish for 2025.
The iconic M quad tailpipes are now standard in black chrome. Model designation badges on the trunk lid and grille are now black with silver borders.
New steering wheels and seat options, M Carbon bucket seats available as individual upgrade.
The steering wheel, a crucial interface between driver and vehicle, undergoes a redesign in the 2025 BMW M2, enhancing the interior aesthetics. The standard M leather steering wheel is now heated, featuring a flat-bottomed rim and updated spoke design. A red center marker at the 12 o’clock position, gearshift paddles, and two M buttons for selecting personalized vehicle setups reinforce the track-oriented feel.
The M Sport seats in Vernasca leather can now be ordered in Black with Red accents. Additionally, the weight-saving M Carbon bucket seats can now be selected as a standalone option. With Merino leather surfaces, electric adjustment, heating, removable head restraints, and provision for a multi-point harness, these seats offer optimal support and comfort for both daily driving and spirited performance.
BMW Operating System 8.5, digital climate control features.
The M-specific features on the BMW Curved Display and optional BMW Head-Up Display enhance the tech-forward ambiance of the cockpit. The fully digital screen setup, consisting of a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch control display, now hosts the latest iteration of the BMW iDrive system powered by BMW Operating System 8.5. Climate control operations can now be managed digitally. Temperature, ventilation settings, seat heating, and steering wheel heating in the new BMW M2 can be adjusted via touch or voice command using the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
This shift towards digitalization results in fewer buttons and controls in the cockpit, accompanied by a revamped instrument panel. New adjustment controls for the air vent grilles in the center and side of the instrument panel allow airflow direction adjustments via rotating and tilting movements.
Standard interior trim elements in the new BMW M2 include Matte Dark Graphite Trim on the instrument panel and center console. Optional interior finishes such as M Fine Brushed Aluminum, Aluminum Rhombicle Anthracite, and M Carbon Fiber are also available.
M-specific user interface, comprehensive standard features.
The core of the M-specific user interface is the Setup button on the center console. This button provides direct access to settings for the engine, adaptive M suspension, M Servotronic steering, integrated braking system with M Compound brakes, and M Traction Control function, enabling drivers to set individual thresholds for wheel slip control. The Gear Shift Assistant in the 6-speed transmission is also controlled via the M Setup menu.
Standard equipment in the new BMW M2 includes three-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, M Seat Belts, and BMW Live Cockpit Plus with BMW Maps navigation system. Smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is also included. Optional items available are the Harman Kardon surround sound system, Active Cruise Control with Stop and Go function, and the Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant.
Furthermore, the BMW Live Cockpit Professional in the new BMW M2 now features Augmented View on the control display. This feature enhances the navigation system’s map display by overlaying a live video stream of the driver’s view on the information or control display, providing real-time contextual information. For instance, during complex intersections, an animated directional arrow is superimposed on the video image to guide the driver towards the correct route.
