The foundation for Larry ten Voorde’s third triumph of the season was established in the early moments of the 19-lap race. Despite starting from the second grid spot in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, the reigning champion had a better start than polesitter Huub van Eijndhoven. However, the 24-year-old Dutch driver’s race quickly turned into a nightmare. Eijndhoven could only maintain second place until the midpoint of the race before a puncture forced him to pit, ultimately finishing outside of the point-scoring positions.
Larry ten Voorde, on the contrary, drove a dominant race to secure his sixth victory in the Carrera Cup at Zandvoort. “I didn’t have the fastest car today and had to push hard to keep Robert de Haan at bay,” analyzed the defending champion and the new leader of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland drivers’ standings. Following the podium ceremony in Zandvoort, Larry ten Voorde headed straight to Le Mans for the official test drives for the upcoming 24-hour race next weekend.

Robert de Haan executed a similar overtaking move to Larry ten Voorde’s: Starting from fourth place, he managed to pass Harry King on the run to the first corner. “Our cars made contact, resulting in my steering being slightly off. That hindered me from challenging Larry for the rest of the race,” reported the top rookie and best-placed driver from the Talent Pool of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland.

Harry King’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup suffered minor damage from the battle with de Haan. “The body of the car rubbed against the right rear tire, causing it to deteriorate. I almost spun out several times on the left-hand turns,” King explained. The British driver, representing the German team Allied-Racing, persevered. Despite being overtaken by Theo Oeverhaus (Bonk Motorsport), he managed to finish fifth. Alexander Tauscher (Proton Huber Competition) claimed sixth place. Due to French driver Marvin Klein’s disqualification for a technical violation, both King and Tauscher moved up one spot in the official results.

Due to the same infraction, Theo Oeverhaus was classified third, repeating his Saturday result. “It was a highly intense race. I had multiple encounters with different competitors, but fortunately, my car handled them all well,” summarized the German driver, who initially took fourth place. With their performances, two drivers from the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland Talent Pool secured positions in the top three of the overall standings.

Following Robert de Haan, Dutch drivers Kas Haverkort (Uniserver by Team GP Elite) and Colin Jamie Bönighausen (CarTech Motorsport) claimed the top three spots in the Rookie classification. They also showcased the talents of the Carrera Cup rookies with sixth and seventh place finishes in the overall standings. The ProAm category was won by Ahmad Alshehab. “I encountered difficulties in warming up my tires. I had to fight hard to secure the ProAm victory,” said the Kuwaiti businessman racing for the German team CarTech Motorsport.
“The Circuit Zandvoort once again provided an exciting backdrop for a fantastic event. The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland thrilled approximately 30,000 spectators and our guests trackside with gripping race action. Congratulations to our Dutch drivers for their dual wins in the overall and Rookie classifications,” remarked Karsten Sohns, Chief Financial Officer Porsche Deutschland. Sohns, alongside Thomas Illner, Chief Operations Officer Porsche Deutschland, and Dr. Nils Hueske, Chief Commercial Officer Sixt, presented the trophies.
The next destination for the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland is Budapest. The one-make series will contest its seventh and eighth races of the season on 22 and 23 June 2024 at the Formula 1 circuit on the outskirts of the Hungarian capital.
