Munich/Cernobbio. Against the stunning backdrop of Villa d’Este on Lake Como, BMW Motorrad introduces its newest design innovation: the BMW R20 concept. This bike embodies exquisite craftsmanship and showcases itself as the epitome of bold and elegant design, meticulously crafted to perfection.
Displayed at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, renowned for its sophistication and historical significance in the realm of extraordinary vehicles, BMW Motorrad presents the iconic air-oil cooled Big Boxer engine as a central sculptural element.
Head of BMW Motorrad, Markus Flasch, describes the concept as follows: “The BMW R20 concept is a mechanical masterpiece with the Big Boxer engine at its core. Undeniably BMW Motorrad.”

The BMW R20 concept exudes a commanding presence with a laid-back gentlemanly style, embodying BMW Motorrad’s signature traits of classic design and exceptional engineering coupled with thrilling mechanics.
Focused around the powerful Big Boxer engine as the heart of exhilarating riding experience, the striking tank stands out as a sculptural centerpiece, while the rear is streamlined to accentuate the bike’s clean lines and robustness.
The chassis has undergone a complete overhaul, featuring a black double-loop main frame crafted from chrome-molybdenum steel tubes, serving as the backbone. Combining tradition and modernity, the BMW R20 concept boasts a black disc wheel at 17×6.25 inches at the rear, paired with a 17″ spoke wheel with black spokes upfront. The revamped BMW Paralever now sports a new two-arm variant, with a swingarm made of chrome-molybdenum steel and an aluminum Paralever strut.
The meticulously engineered kinematics ensure complete balance of drive torque. Other premium touches include fully adjustable Öhlins Blackline components for suspension, radial-mounted brake calipers from ISR for optimal deceleration, and a visually striking 2-in-2 exhaust system that enhances both performance and aesthetics.
As a standout Big Boxer Roadster, the BMW R20 concept sets a new benchmark in the motorcycle realm, reaffirming BMW Motorrad’s dedication to superior engineering and a deep-rooted love for motorcycling.

Embracing Big Boxer Culture
The focal point of the BMW R20 concept remains the air-oil-cooled Big Boxer engine, now with a displacement of 2,000 cc. The concept bike features new cylinder head covers, a belt cover, and an oil cooler, designed to discreetly house the oil pipes.
An eye-catching detail is the side profile, allowing the observer to track the airflow through the open intake funnels, throttle bodies, and cylinders, eventually escaping through the open exhaust system and tailpipes in megaphone design, delivering the iconic Big Boxer sound.

Daring in Design
The aluminum tank receives a fresh design, showcasing the retro “hotter than pink” color from the 1970s. The BMW R20 concept is color-coordinated with polished and anodized aluminum components such as the cylinder head covers, belt cover, and air intake funnels, along with the Paralever strut, footrest system, and ISR brake calipers in gunmetal.
The integrated taillight in the single seat, upholstered with quilted black Alcantara and fine-grain leather, along with the modern LED headlight presented in a 3D-printed aluminum ring, elevate the bike’s dynamic roadster appearance. Each detail contributes to the concept bike’s unique charm, defining its overall statement: The BMW R20 concept propels Big Boxer Culture to new heights.
“The R20 concept presents a daring interpretation of the BMW Motorrad DNA,” remarks Alexander Buckan, Head of Design BMW Motorrad. “It marries modern technological elements with a classic roadster design. Its oversized proportions and minimalist aesthetic establish it as a truly distinctive character.”
