Innovative Camouflage Technology is Interactive
The upcoming CES event in Las Vegas will showcase Volkswagen’s cutting-edge ID.7 in a truly unique manner. This camouflaged sedan boasts a digital design with a distinctive paint job that can be illuminated interactively. Featuring 40 layers of paint, some conductive and others insulating, the ID.7 has 22 electrified areas controlled separately beneath the surface layer of paint (electroluminescence) to create a dazzling light show. Connecting this feature to a sound system visualizes the rhythm through the illumination of specific areas.
QR codes on the car’s hood and sides serve as a bridge between the physical and digital realms, enhancing the immersive experience. The entire camouflage design incorporates QR codes to obscure the contours of the final production vehicle.

The design of the ID.7 adheres to the distinctive style of Volkswagen’s fully electric ID. model family. Key design elements include an aerodynamic front section and roof that improve energy efficiency and extend the vehicle’s range. Strategically placed air intakes at the front channel airflow along the vehicle’s sides to the rear, creating an air curtain that streamlines aerodynamics. The sloping roof contributes to the impressive drag coefficient of the ID.7, offering a range of up to approximately 700 kilometers2 (WLTP).
Built on the Volkswagen Group’s modular MEB platform, the ID.7 benefits from a spacious interior due to its short overhangs and long wheelbase of 2.97 meters, resembling a luxury sedan with generous interior space.
Volkswagen’s Electric Mobility Initiative: Milestone Achieved with 500,000 MEB-Based Vehicles Delivered
Volkswagen’s launch of the ID.7 sedan marks the expansion of the successful fully electric ID. family into the upper mid-size segment, aligning with the company’s ACCELERATE strategy for electric mobility. Volkswagen has recently reached a significant milestone by delivering 500,000 vehicles from the ID. family globally through its subsidiaries ahead of schedule, despite supply chain challenges.
Following the success of models like ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID.6 (exclusive to China), the upcoming ID.7 will be Volkswagen’s sixth ID. family model and the second global vehicle based on the MEB platform after the ID.4. The electric sedan is slated for launch in key markets such as China, Europe, and North America, with European production set to take place at the Volkswagen Emden plant.
