The Vatican City State is fully committed to implementing innovative and sustainable solutions to effectively reduce the impact of human activities on the environment and protect the planet. Central to this effort is a program known as “Ecological Conversion 2030”, which aims to decrease the CO2 footprint of the state’s vehicle fleet. The plan entails gradually replacing current vehicles with electric ones, with the goal of achieving a completely CO2-neutral fleet by 2030.
Partnering with Volkswagen, the Vatican State will begin receiving a fleet from Volkswagen Financial Services starting in early 2024. Over time, additional zero-emission vehicles from Volkswagen Group brands will be introduced, ultimately replacing the entire fleet by 2030.
Imelda Labbé expressed excitement, stating, “The move towards electric fleets is a global trend. Having Vatican employees driving our ID. electric vehicles is a significant milestone for our brand and highlights the appeal of our all-electric models.” Dr. Christian Dahlheim added, “We are thrilled to be part of this important project with the Vatican. It showcases our competitiveness in providing sustainable mobility solutions.”
